Un beau jour à Wellington/A beautiful day in Wellington

I had planned to go to the gym but time got the better of me and I did not.  My sister Margaret came around and because it was such an nice day we wandered down to the waterfrontwhere we had a cup of coffee.  It was so nice in the sun that I could have sat there for ages.  However, I needed to do some things in town, so we moved on.

The final part of the afternoon was spent doing the last minute packing and being delighted that I did not need to use the expansion zip, which means more room for stuff like wine when I come back to New Zealand.  Finally, after tidying and cleaning the house I headed for the cable car confident I had plenty of time but  completely forgetting that it was rush hour while thinking I had two potential buses that would get me to the airport in plenty of time.  The Cable Car was prompt but when I looked at the electronic bus timetable I found that they had cancelled my first reserve bus and I arrived at the bus stop just as the bus I was aiming for left.  It was early.  Fortunately my second reserve bus showed and I took a slow and anxiety producing trip through the CB.   After that it went very quickly and probably much quicker than a taxi or friend's car.  From there on it was easy to get my bag tagged and me ticketed and onto the plane for Auckland.

I was very sad to leave Wellington as the weather has been wonderful and the weather in London and Zurich had as going into temperatures in the single digits. Not only that it put on a beautiful nighttime show for my departure.  The moon was rising over the harbour and the route we took also had the moon on Lake Wairarapa.  Very beautiful.  Auckland was fine but by they time we  boarded our plane it looked like there had been showers.

The holiday began with my usual anxiety about packing and planning – including making the last day go really fast as I remembered the thousand and one things I thought I should have done. After nearly thirty years of travelling you would think that I might have learnt.
